Baggage Allowance for Gulf Air

Carry-on baggage 

It is a type of luggage that passengers are allowed to carry along in the plane’s cabin. Each airline has specific rules and dimensions (45 x 40 x 30cm) to be stored under the frontal seat. Gulf Air has 5 classes such as Economy Light, Falcon Gold Flex, Economy Start, Economy Flex, and Falcon Gold Smart. 

A laptop purse, Umbrella, and reading books may be permitted 

Checked Baggage 

The checked-in baggage is the luggage that is carried by passengers on board and stored in the cargo hold. It is also called cargo baggage. Each airline has its own rules for the dimension (51x 76 x 31cm) and free weight allowance.

Extra baggage allowance is available for falcon flyer members accordingly:

• Black: one additional bag up to 32kg
• Gold: one additional bag up to 23kg 
• Silver: one additional bag up to 15kg

Not allowed items in baggage 

• Irregular shaped baggage 
• Blanket/fabric wrapped baggage 
• Baggage without flat service/ball-shaped 
• Matted woven/ plastic baggage 
• Bags with long loose straps 
• Oversized bags above 215cm linear dimension 

Personal Items

Gulf air allowed its passengers to carry the below items with no extra charge

•  A handbag, pocketbook, or purse which is appropriate to normal travel dress and is not being used as a container for other items which could be regarded as baggage.
• A laptop/ personal computer
• An overcoat, wrap or blanket
• An umbrella or walking stick
• A small camera or pair of binoculars
• A reasonable amount of reading matter
• Infant's food for consumption during the flight
• A fully collapsible wheelchair (please note that this will be loaded in the hold at the departure gate)
• A pair of crutches and/or braces or other prosthetic device provided that the customer is dependent on them

Smart Bags

The smart bag is a small, lightweight device that can be attached to your luggage and will send you an alert if your bag gets lost or goes off course. It is supported by a lithium battery or lithium battery power bank

• Checked Baggage: Smart bags are permitted as checked baggage provided the battery is removed and carried in the cabin; if the battery cannot be removed, the Smart bag may not be carried as checked baggage.
• Cabin Baggage: Smart bags are allowed in the cabin (weight and size permitting), as long as the battery is removable. The battery does not have to be removed in flight as long as the Smart bag is completely powered off. If the battery is not removable, the Smart bag cannot be carried on Gulf Air.

Excess Baggage

Gulf Air offers an excess baggage allowance in case you have wight or pieces exceed the free baggage allowance. Pre-paid option is available with Gulf Air through three channels 

• Prepaid Excess online baggage
• Prepaid through Gulf Air offices 
• Prepaid Excess baggage at the airport

Notes 

• Checked-in baggage exceeding ticket class baggage allowance and prepaid excess baggage will be charged at standard airport rates
• All fees given in US Dollars will be collected in equivalent local currencies
• Changes to the purchased baggage allowance can be done up to 24 hours prior the departure time
• The purchased Prepaid Excess Baggage will be valid for one year from the purchase date
• The purchased excess baggage cannot be transferred to another passenger 

Special Baggage

Gulf Air offers free baggage allowance for passengers carrying the below:

• Zamzam Water: Passenger departing from Jeddah airport cannot be carried, yet from Damma, Riyadh and Madinah is allowed with a max weight 5kg and it should be wrapped/packaged securely

Missing Baggage and Claims

In case of delayed baggage or missed, passenger is entitled to fill the suitable form for the missed baggage and submit it nearest Gulf Air offices. Delayed baggage could be checked its status from the website 

Prohibited Items

• Disabling devices containing mace, pepper spray etc. containing an irritant or incapacitating substance;
• Electroshock weapons containing explosives, compressed gases, lithium batteries etc.
• Self-balancing scooters with lithium batteries;
• Security-type attaché cases or briefcases incorporating dangerous goods such as lithium batteries and/or pyrotechnic materials;
• Explosives, fireworks, flares, ‘strike anywhere matches;
• Compressed gases;
• Corrosives;
• Flammable liquids;
• Radioactive material;
• Poisons and infectious substances;
• Petrol-operated tools or equipment.
• Guns, firearms and other devices that discharge projectiles
• Stunning devices 
•  Objects with a sharp point or sharp edge
• Workmen's tools
• Blunt instruments
• Explosives and incendiary substances and devices capable

Children and Infants 

Gulf air has its own policy for children and infants.

• Children, 2 years and above, have the same checked baggage allowance as adults, plus a child's collapsible stroller/pushchair and a child's car seat.
• Infants, under 2 years, have a special allowance of one piece of 15kg for checked baggage and collapsible stroller/pushchair and an infant car seat with maximum dimension 44 x 35 x 20 cm with a total weight 3kg. 

Animals policy 

Gulf Air doesn’t support the transfer of animals except for falcons. Gulf Air set a bunch of rules to transfer falcons, such: 

By hand 

• Falcon must be hooded and attached to a rope with handler
• One falcon is allowed per class in Gold and Economy classes 
• Price will be the same as one excess baggage 

On perch 

• Maximum number is 2 on perch, additional one can be carried with handler 
• Extra seat must be purchased for every perch 
• Perch must be attached to the seat frame 

In a cage 

• Maximum 2 falcons per cage.
• Follow IATA LAR regulation 
• Extra seat must be purchased for each cage.
• Cages only permitted in Economy class 
• Cage must be secured in the aircraft by the ground staff of the airport
