Sumela Monastery

Perched on the cliffs in the Pontic Mountains, the Sumela Monastery looks like something straight out of a fantasy film. The Greek Orthodox Monastery, often referred to as ‘Meryem Ana’ (The Virgin Mary), was built in the fourth century and offers insight into the incredible history of the region. Take in the beautiful architecture and murals that adorn the interiors, but most of all, enjoy the exceptional views.
