Gianicolo Hill

Rome’s highest hill offers stunning panoramic views over the city’s rooftops. Home to monuments dedicated to Garibaldi – an Italian who, along with his makeshift army, fought pope-backing French troops in a fierce battle in the 1800s in the struggle for Italian unification – this hill also offers several summer-only eateries, weekend puppet shows (a long-standing tradition), and carnival rides.
