Piazza del Popolo

This impressive piazza was established in 1538 to offer a grand entrance to Rome’s northern gateway of the past. It’s been remodelled a few times since then, most recently by Giuseppe Valadier in 1823. In the centre, you’ll find a 36-metre high obelisk – brought back from ancient Egypt by Augustus – that originally stood in the Circo Massimo. The piazza is lined with restaurants and boasts history-rich charm and incredible sights.
