Mosque of Muhammad Ali

Offering the perfect combination of beauty and majesty, the Mosque of Muhammad Ali was completed in 1848 and is considered one of the most stunning constructions in Cairo’s Salah Al-Din citadel. Since the building request came from Muhammad Ali, the Ottoman governor of Egypt himself, it should come as no surprise that his body is buried in a tomb located in the courtyard of the mosque.

Fun fact

The mosque's courtyard contains an ornate clock that was gifted to Muhammad Ali by King Louis Philippe of France in 1845
