Kom el Dikka

Set in the heart of Alexandria, history buffs will love Kom el Dikka. The ancient site is built in the traditional Greek style, featuring a flat stage in the centre and raised rows that surround three-quarters of the stage. Nearby excavations have unearthed Roman baths, halls and a village – including a mosaiced villa. Look out for the Roman numerals chiselled into the amphitheatre’s seats.

Fun fact

The amphitheatre’s bench-style seats are made of marble, except for the first row, carved of red granite.
